    Education Needed

    Web Designer

    Web designers help businesses and individuals maintain an online presence. Highly-technical  people skilled in web design are needed to help keep these websites attractive to customers and operating smoothly. Most web design positions require a degree in web design or a related technology field. Major companies will most likely require a bachelor’s degree in web design or information technology. Smaller companies may not require a four-year degree, but may instead ask for some education, a certification or relevant experience, such as a portfolio of some of the candidate’s best work. However, the more education, the better. Those with master’s degrees will have the best opportunities.

    Web Developer

    Web developers are basically responsible for creating the look and feel of a client’s website. Given the ever-changing nature of the online world, they have numerous responsibilities towards their clients and hence, must have knowledge in a variety of areas, as well as a strong understanding of how to combine new technology with creative innovations.   
     
    Certifications needed are having a Bachelors Degree in computer science, or an MIS (management information systems) degree. As well as knowledge in ColdFusion 7+ which connects html pages to a database (ColdFusion is very important because the html pages must be connected to a database or else everyone around the world would not be able to view the developer’s web pages or applications). Web developers must have familiarity on SQL, and SQL server 2005 so that they know everything about the databases that they are adding applications and web pages to in case of emergencies. Flash video and animation experience is an advantage in case a client wants a very graphic and flashy web page.

    Webmaster

    A webmaster is in charge of maintaining websites for companies and individuals on the Internet. The webmaster is ultimately responsible for ensuring that a website is easy to navigate and that it addresses the needs of the client and its customers. The main job of a webmaster is to monitor, improve, and update the performance of existing websites.
     
    Many webmasters have college degrees in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or design-related fields; however, many others have only a year or two of college training or perhaps none at all. It is common for webmasters to be self-trained, learning their skills by working with the Internet and its related computer applications.
     

    Web Author

    Web authors are technical writers and website developers. They plan, research and author content available on the Internet. Web authors spend a lot of their time writing or refreshing content on the Web. They present electronic material in an interesting and appealing manner. Web authors search for images and artwork suitable for online audiences.
     
    A bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, computer science, information science or management information systems (MIS) can provide applicants with the necessary skills required by the job. Ideal candidates demonstrate a balanced mix of technical expertise and excellent writing and editing skills. Some Web authors may require specialized training to acquire knowledge about the field in which they work.
