About Isabel Allende

Isabel Allende was born August 2, 1942 in Lima, Peru. She has written many works, including The House of the Spirits and City of the Beasts. She obtained United States citizenship in 2003 and is presently living in San Rafael, California with her second husband, William Gordon.

Accomplishments

• she was awarded the Gabriela Mistral Order of Merit in 1994; she was the first woman to receive this honor

• she was one of the eight flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy

• she received the honorary degree Doctor of Humane Letters from San Francisco State University in 2008
