Hispanic Heritage Month
is a celebration of the contributions of Hispanic Americans to The
U.S.A. and to celebrate Hispanic heritage, and culture. It is celebrated
from September 15 through October 15th. It was started in 1968 as a
week, approved by former president Lyndon Johnson. Then later in 1988 it
was expanded by Ronald Regan to a 30-day period. The word Hispanic, is a
term defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, refers to Spanish-speaking
people in the United States of any race. On the 2000 Census form, people
of Spanish origin could identify themselves as Mexican, Puerto Rican,
Cuban, or any other Spanish culture.
