Roberto Clemente, born in Carolina, Puerto Rico
was born in a large family or seven and he was the youngest. At the age
of 17, he was playing for Santurce cangrejros in the Puerto Rican Winter
Leauge where he attracted people because of his hitting, fielding and
throwing ability. In his pro career, Roberto got over than 200 hits four
times, and won 12 gold awards in a row. He was elected
to the Hall of Fame in 1973, therefore becoming the first Latin American
to be selected. He was not only a great baseball player but a
compasionate person as well. He was involve in charity works and also
set arranging for emergency relief flights to the earthquake
victims of Managua. the capital city of Nicaragua. Tragically, Roberto
dies in a plane accident which crashed into the ocean off the coast of
Isla Verde, Puerto Rico immediately after takeoff on December 31, 1972
