Oscar de la Hoya was born February 4,
1973 to Mexican parents. He is also known as "the golden boy", he is a
retired boxer. De la Hoya comes from a family of boxers. His his
grandfather, father, and brother were all boxers as well.
Oscar de la Hoya has many accomplishments. He
was the first person of Hispanic descent to have a national boxing
promotional film. Some other accomplishments include 39 wins, 30 of
those wins by a knockout, he defeated 17 world champions and has won 10
world titles in 6 different weight divisions. De la Hoya has made more
money than in other boxer in the history of the sport.
De la Hoya also does many other things
besides boxing. In 2000, he released his Grammy- nominated cd titled
Oscar de la Hoya. In 2004, he debuted his own clothing line of
active-wear. His company Golden boy Partners works on urban development
in Latino communities. He also has many magazines that his production
company manages. In April 2009 Oscar de la Hoya announced his retirement
from the ring. He now focuses on helping the Latino community and
managing his production company.
