Roberto Walker Clemente was born on August 18,1934 in
Carolina, Puerto Rico. He was the youngest of seven children. Roberto's
family was always poor growing up. Roberto was always very determined
and hard working as a child he would help his father work in the cane
field. Back in the 1930's there was nothing for children to do but to
play baseball. Roberto went on to play baseball threw high school and
was sign to play amateur ball. He was later signed by The Brooklyn
Dodgers. After playing there for a little he was picked up by the
Pittsburgh Pirates where he when on to finish his career. Roberto was
there starting right fielder for 17 years. He was a 12 time all-star
the Babe Ruth award, The world series MVP, NL MVP 12 gold gloves
and led the Pirates to 2 world series. Roberto was known as a
respectful man. On December 31,1972 Roberto tried to fly out to
Nicaragua to help donate things because of a horrible earthquake. No
more than three minutes into the air the plane crashed. The pilot and
Roberto were excepted to swing back to shore but they didn't.
Boats and helicopters were out looking all they found was his
suitcase Roberto Clemente pronounce dead. Puerto Rico has lost one of
there's greatest players ever. Puerto Rico recognized him by naming
centers after him. His number was also retired in Pittsburgh. |
