Oscar De La Hoya was born on February 4, 1973 in Los Angeles, California.
He was an American Boxer of Mexican decent. At the age of, Oscar had
started boxing which led to his success in life. He started out at
Eastside boxing gym in L.A. Soon after, Oscar got the nickname "Golden
Boy". Oscar's amateur career consisted of 223 wins and 6 losses. Out of
all these amateur fights, 163 of them were by knockout. In 1989 Oscar
was a Gold medalist National Golden Gloves champ. In 1990 he was the
U.S. and Goodwill Games champ. In 1991 he was the U.S. national and U.S.
Olympics Festival champ. In the summer Olympics of 1992, Oscar won the
only boxing gold medal for the United States. He later became an
entrepreneur by founding Golden Boy Promotions, a combat sport
professional firm.
