Playing Football for ERHS

Bryan Davie

Bryan Davie is a Senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt Maryland as a part of the Science and Technology program. Over his high school career he participated in many activities such as Varsity Football, Rugby, Wrestling, Drama, Band, Choir and the occasional session with the Archduke as well as Junior Civitan. The part of high school he is most proud of is becoming part of the 2009 Prince Georges County All-Star team because "Football was something I was told I should play. Never really an idea at the forefront of my mind. Basketball was my true love and besides, I was always told I sucked and was considered one of the worse players on the team. Frankly I think they just kept me on because of my size." Well his size, stamina, and hard work paid off to help him become one of the best players on his high school football team and arguably one of the best in the state. To his teammates chagrin however, Bryan has elected to postpone his collegiate football career until his sophomore career. "I want to be a civil engineer and that takes a lot of time and effort. I want to make sure I can do my work and have good grades so that I can attempt to undertake something as big as college football." he says. Bryan will be attending the Pennsylvania State University as part of the Schreyer's Honors College. The last thing he told us about high school was this: "I have grown up in ERHS and will be sad to see it end. I have met lifelong friends, a promising girlfriend and have created enough memories to last me a lifetime. June 4th 2010 marks the end of my adolescence and brings about a newer phase in my life. One where I really become responsible for my actions. High school is not a place to get good grades and impress colleges....High school is a place you call home and live out your last few years of the awkward teenage stages. I have had fun and I absolutely love it here.  I cant wait till college and have the opportunities that I have been told I will receive. But then I think and I'm not too sure I want to leave home because this is all that I have ever known."
